Armed with 40 backpacks full of school supplies, 80 bags of mulch, landscaping tools and prayer cards, about 120 members of First Baptist Church in Ocala set out on a hot Sunday afternoon in August to take part in its annual back-to-school project.

When First Baptist Church of Dunnellon began to pursue a new church plant, Pastor Russ Randall wanted to get 100 percent participation from members in launching the new church known as Faith Fellowship Ocala.

Children from Hardeetown Baptist Church in Chiefland recently donated $631 raised during Vacation Bible School to help children less fortunate than themselves. The funds were donated to the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes (FBCH) and will be used for a sports and playground project currently underway at the Gainesville FBCH campus.

When the Rev. Jonathan Edmisten agreed to become interim pastor at a church in Chiefland, Fla., earlier this year, he had no idea this would be the church plant he had been praying about. He could not have known that church attendance would more than triple from 20 to about 80 in just six months. Or that he would baptize nine new believers during the same time period.

A Committee on Nominations composed of pastors, laypersons, and church staff has been appointed by the officers of the Florida Baptist State Convention. Phillip Herrington, pastor of First Baptist Church, Live Oak, was named to chair the 18-member committee.

When Morgan McQueen rose up from the waters of the baptismal pool on Easter Sunday at Faith Baptist Church in Old Town, she was a changed person.“I can’t explain it,” she said. “I just truly feel different. I’m acting different. I’m ministering to people. Talking to people about God like I never did before. I just feel moved. I feel changed.”

Twelve to 16 hour days are not too uncommon for Dale Wiseman, the bi-vocational senior pastor at Bayless Highway Baptist Church in Starke. Wiseman works full time as a school resource officer for the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office. This husband and father of four is also the mayor of Hampton, a small town south of Starke.

Cornerstone Baptist Church in Starke held its first service on March 17 with some 87 people in attendance, a very encouraging number for this church replant. “We are pretty excited about what the Lord is doing,” said Pastor Joey Hay. “At our first service we had a man make a profession of faith. We were really grateful for that.”
