On June 10th, at this year’s Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) in Birmingham, over 100 people gathered at the Westin Hotel to hear a debate between Dwight McKissic, Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, TX and Florida’s very own Tom Ascol, Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral.

Summer Back Yard Bible clubs, Good News clubs, partnering with public schools, Friends in the Park (weekly Bible study and meal for the homeless), FCA, Midwestern Food Bank, Ride Nature (local skate park ministry), Serve Those Serving Initiative, Fort Myers Rescue Mission, Fire Department Chaplaincy, One More Child, Wings of Shelter (local partnership rescuing women from sex trafficking), Disaster Relief, and many international partnerships. This may sound like a list of organizations that a non-profit agency would be involved in and not ministries of a local church. But, for Crossroads Baptist Church, this is what serving outside their four walls looks like every day.

A Committee on Nominations composed of pastors, laypersons, and church staff has been appointed by the officers of the Florida Baptist State Convention. Phillip Herrington, pastor of First Baptist Church, Live Oak, was named to chair the 18-member committee.

The Southwest Region of the Florida Baptist Convention (FBC) is one of the most diverse regions in all of Florida. It varies in ethnicities, religion, and financial makeup. These various factors bring many challenges to pastors and the churches that they serve. But, at the State Evangelism Conference that took place at Colonial Oaks Baptist Church on Monday, April 29th, they all had one common mission – to reach just “one”.

Baptism stories are pouring in from all across our Sunshine state from churches who baptized new believers to faith in Christ on Acts 2:41 Baptism Sunday. For Acts 2:41 Baptism Sunday, these three campuses came together as one church at Sand Key Park to baptize and celebrate the new life of 86 people.

For over 700 people, March 30th was no ordinary Saturday. This large number wasn’t the amount of people that showed up for a Children’s ministry event or a concert at First Baptist Church Naples. This is the number of people who chose to serve and share the love of Jesus with their community, alongside their church family.
