{"id":45781,"date":"2023-11-14T16:32:34","date_gmt":"2023-11-14T21:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/floridabaptist.wpengine.com\/?p=45781"},"modified":"2025-11-03T11:40:49","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T16:40:49","slug":"four-leaders-elected-to-serve-as-florida-baptist-officers-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/four-leaders-elected-to-serve-as-florida-baptist-officers-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Four leaders elected to serve as Florida Baptist officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Pictured above from left to right: David Perez, pastor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iglesiacasadebendicion.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Iglesia Casa de Bendicion<\/a> in St. Cloud; Mike Orr, senior pastor of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/firstbaptistchipley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">First Baptist Church<\/a> of Chipley; Layperson Jeffery Crick, a family physician at Mayo Clinic and member of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fruitcove.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Fruit Cove Baptist Church<\/a> in St. Johns.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>LUTZ\u2013 Four Florida Baptist leaders were elected to serve as 2023-24 officers of the <a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/state-convention\/\">Florida Baptist State Convention<\/a> during its annual meeting Nov. 13-14 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idlewild.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Idlewild Baptist Church<\/a> in Lutz.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Orr, senior pastor of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/firstbaptistchipley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">First Baptist Church<\/a>\u00a0of Chipley, was elected to serve his first term as FBSC president. He was nominated to his first term as president by Ted Traylor, pastor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/olivebaptist.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Olive Baptist Church<\/a>\u00a0in Pensacola.<\/p>\n<p>Orr has pastored First Baptist Church in Chipley for 23 years, and he has led his church to be among the state convention\u2019s top 100 churches in number of baptisms. Over the past 10 years, First Baptist Chipley has baptized 218 people. He has also led his church to be one of the convention\u2019s top ten givers to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/cp\">Cooperative Program<\/a>, giving 15% of its undesignated receipts to Southern Baptists\u2019 unified plan of giving.<\/p>\n<p>Orr served on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/board\/\">Florida Baptists\u2019 State Board of Missions<\/a>\u00a0for two terms, 2016-19 and 2019-22, serving twice as its president, 2017-18 and 2018-19.<\/p>\n<p>In his nomination, Traylor said that Orr is a \u201cproven servant leader.\u201d In his church, Orr is an \u201cexpository preacher Sunday by Sunday and a faithful shepherd of his people day by day.\u201d Orr is \u201cheart deep\u201d in Florida Baptist life, said Traylor.<\/p>\n<p>Orr will serve alongside David Perez, pastor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iglesiacasadebendicion.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Iglesia Casa de Bendicion<\/a>\u00a0in St. Cloud, who was elected to his first term as FBSC first vice president.<\/p>\n<p>Perez also serves as director of prayer for the National Hispanic Baptist Network. Manuel Barahona, pastor at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westsidefbc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Westside Baptist Church<\/a>\u00a0in Boynton Beach, nominated Perez for the 2023-24 role.<\/p>\n<p>As COVID was raging during 2020, Perez traveled throughout the state and encouraged Florida Baptist Hispanic pastors to launch concerts of prayer, resulting in what has been described as a \u201cGreat Commission movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perez currently leads a daily morning devotional and prayer time on Facebook.<a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/FBC23_Officers-Group_1125-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-45783 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/FBC23_Officers-Group_1125-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"383\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today the state emphasis on prayer among Hispanic pastors has grown into a national concert of prayer.<\/p>\n<p>Perez is a leader among leaders, said Barahona. \u201cPrayer is his focus; David, along with his wife and his children, lead a growing church. Pastor David Perez has been an example to us Spanish pastors as a true leader of Hispanic Florida Baptist churches. David has allowed us to see Florida Baptist work advance, not just among Hispanics, but to unite us multiculturally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Layperson Jeffery Crick, a family physician at Mayo Clinic and member of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fruitcove.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Fruit Cove Baptist Church<\/a>\u00a0in St. Johns, was elected to serve in his first term as FBSC second vice president.\u00a0 He was nominated to the post by Tim Maynard, recently retired lead pastor of Fruit Cove.<\/p>\n<p>Crick has been a member of Fruit Cove since 2017 and has held various leadership roles in the church.<\/p>\n<p>Crick is \u201ca dear friend, my personal doctor,\u201d said Maynard. \u201cI have known Jeff for a number of years. He had led us well as a layman. He is a kingdom-minded man,\u201d said Maynard.<\/p>\n<p>Janey Frost, who serves at <a href=\"https:\/\/tothepoint.church\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Point Church<\/a> in Pensacola, was elected to a second term as FBSC recording secretary. She was nominated to the post by John Vickers.<\/p>\n<p>Vickers, next gen pastor at The Point Church, said, \u201cJaney is one of my ministry heroes in our community.
