{"id":45803,"date":"2023-11-15T09:30:58","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T14:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/floridabaptist.wpengine.com\/?p=45803"},"modified":"2025-11-04T16:18:39","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T21:18:39","slug":"ministers-wives-encouraged-to-not-lose-heart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/ministers-wives-encouraged-to-not-lose-heart\/","title":{"rendered":"Ministers&#8217; wives encouraged to &#8216;not lose heart&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LUTZ\u2014Beautifully decorated tables and a gift bag in every seat greeted almost 300 <a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/\">Florida Baptist<\/a> ministers\u2019 wives as they arrived for the annual ministers\u2019 wives luncheon held at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idlewild.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Idlewild Baptist Church<\/a>, Tuesday, Nov. 14.<\/p>\n<div class=\"uk-card uk-card-default uk-card-body uk-margin\" style=\"border-left: 3px solid #f97316;\">\n<blockquote class=\"uk-text-large uk-margin-bottom\">\n<p>&#8220;Effective ministry is a priceless ministry spent for others.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"uk-text-meta\">\n                <strong>Katrina Sellers<\/strong><br \/>\n                Pastors\u2019 Wife, First Baptist Church, Floral City\n            <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Highlights of the luncheon with the theme Don\u2019t Lose Heart, included praise and worship, the presentation of the Clyde M. Maguire Award for Ministers\u2019 Wives, and a message from Katrina Sellers. Sellers is a high school English teacher, president of the Florida Baptist <a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/women\/\">Women\u2019s Missions and Ministry\/Mission Education<\/a> (WMM\/ME), and pastor\u2019s wife serving alongside her husband at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbcfloralcity.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">First Baptist Church Floral City<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cindy Bradley, catalyst for the Florida Baptist Convention\u2019s WMM\/ME, introduced Karen Green, wife of Tommy Green, Florida Baptists\u2019 executive director-treasurer, who presented the Maguire Award and noted her appreciation for the annual luncheon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an event that I look forward to every year,\u201d said Green. \u201cGathering together, making a new friend, exchanging a phone number. \u2026 we all need someone we can depend on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This award, named in honor of the late Clyde Maguire whose husband John served as executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention from 1945-67, is given annually to a Florida Baptist minister\u2019s wife who has faithfully served the local church and served alongside her husband\u2019s ministry in exemplary ways.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_45805\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45805\" style=\"width: 309px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/FBC23_Lunch-Wives_1083-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-45805 \" src=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/FBC23_Lunch-Wives_1083-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"309\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-45805\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Green presented the 2023 Clyde M. Maguire Award to Kelly Carr, whose husband, Calvin, is lead pastor at <a href=\"https:\/\/northcentral.life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">North Central Baptist Church<\/a> in Gainesville. After Green recognized Carr as \u201cso deserving of this award\u201d and read letters from those who nominated Carr, she was recognized for her \u201cfaithful service, spiritual investment in others, authenticity, gentle and quiet spirit, and living a life exemplary to Jesus to all those around her.\u201d Honoring Carr as she received the award were her mother and husband, who presented Carr with flowers.<\/p>\n<p>During the luncheon, Bradley also announced a new initiative designed specifically for ministers\u2019 wives. This new Regional Pastors\u2019 Wives Support Network was designed \u201cin an effort to continue being \u2018right beside\u2019 local churches and pastors\u2019 families.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/southwest\/\">Southwest<\/a> region will be the first region to launch this fall, and it is expected that other regions will launch across the Sunshine State in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Using humor and rhetorical questions, Sellers called the women to not lose heart in their service alongside their husbands and the local church.
