Rummage to lead Florida Baptists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JACKSONVILLE\u2013<strong>Stephen N. Rummage <\/strong>has been elected to lead the <strong>Florida Baptist State Convention<\/strong>\u00a0as executive director-treasurer.<\/p>\n<p>The senior pastor of <a href=\"https:\/\/qsbc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Quail Springs Baptist Church<\/a> in Oklahoma City since 2019, Rummage was tapped by the <a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/board\/\">Florida Baptist State Board of Missions<\/a> during its July 18 meeting at the Baptist Building in Jacksonville. God\u2019s hand was in the process.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Search committee chairperson Jeff Robinson, lead pastor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gograce.church\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Grace Fellowship: A Church for All Nations<\/a>, described a search process that was marked by unity and God\u2019s leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Orr<strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>president, Florida Baptist State Convention and senior pastor,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/firstbaptistchipley.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">First Baptist Church<\/a>, Chipley, who served as an ex officio member of the search team, agreed. Orr said, \u201cThe Spirit of God led us to Stephen Rummage with such incredible unity. It was a supernatural work. God\u2019s hand was in the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several search committee members shared their personal perspectives with the entire State Board of Missions in calling Rummage to serve Florida Baptists. Search committee member Nicki Glenn, pastor\u2019s wife,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetsonbaptistchurch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Stetson Baptist Church<\/a>, DeLand, said that Rummage\u2019s \u201cdeep faith, visionary leadership, commitment to unity and financial acumen make him the perfect choice\u201d to serve as Florida Baptists\u2019 next executive director-treasurer.<\/p>\n<p>Rummage, 55, is no stranger to Florida Baptists, serving as senior pastor of <a href=\"https:\/\/bellshoals.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bell Shoals Church<\/a> in Brandon from 2009 to 2019.\u00a0 Under his leadership, the church started four new campuses in addition to the original campus and baptized 444 people in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>During his season of ministry in the Florida Baptist State Convention, Rummage served as state convention president from 2016 to 2018. In 2012, he was president of the <a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/2024-florida-pastors-conference-schedule\/\">Florida Baptist Pastors\u2019 Conference<\/a>, and from 2012 to 2014, he was chair of Florida Baptists\u2019 Committee on Order of Business.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond serving in Florida, Rummage served as co-pastor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hickorygrove.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hickory Grove Baptist Church<\/a> in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 2004 to 2009, and he served as pastor or interim pastor at other churches in North Carolina and Louisiana.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47426\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47426\" style=\"width: 482px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC03558-scaled-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-47426\" src=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC03558-scaled-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"482\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47426\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rummage and wife, Michele, are prayed over by Florida Baptist Convention&#8217;s State Board of Missions as Rummage prepares to assume his role as Florida Baptist Convention&#8217;s executive director-treasurer on August 17.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rummage also has served actively in denominational life. In 2024 he was president of the Southern Baptist Convention Pastors\u2019 Conference. From 2016 to 2018, he served as chair of the Southern Baptist Convention <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbc.net\/about\/what-we-do\/sbc-entities\/executive-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Executive Committee<\/a>, where he served as a member for two terms (2006-2009, 2013-2019). Additionally, since 1996, Rummage has been a professor of preaching at various Southern Baptist seminaries.<\/p>\n<p>Rummage\u2019s daily teaching broadcast, <a href=\"https:\/\/movingforwardradio.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">\u201cMoving Forward,\u201d<\/a> airs on more than 500 radio stations nationwide. He has authored seven books and preached in 15 countries.<\/p>\n<p>He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Preaching from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina, and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from University of North Carolina in Greensboro.<\/p>\n<p>He and his wife, Michele, have been married and in ministry together since 1991. They have one son, Joshua, a pharmacist who lives in Brandon with his wife, Morgan.<\/p>\n<p>In remarks to the State Board of Missions, Rummage said that he \u201cis overwhelmed by this opportunity and responsibility\u201d but that he feels \u201cabsolutely called to this assignment and I know God has led us to where we are today\u201d to serve Florida Baptists as executive director-treasurer. \u201cGod\u2019s sufficiency is all I need\u201d in this transition, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Rummage highlighted three words as he accepts the leadership role for Florida Baptists: continue, strengthen and learn.<\/p>\n<p>He does not have a vision, he said, to \u201cchange the direction\u201d of the state convention, but rather \u201cto push the throttle forward.\u201d Next, he said, \u201cThere is always more we can do for God\u2019s glory.\u201d Finally, he said, \u201cI want to see and hear and learn and know Florida Baptists.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47427\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47427\" style=\"width: 441px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Search-Team-scaled-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-47427\" src=\"https:\/\/flbaptist.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Search-Team-scaled-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"441\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47427\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The nine-person search committee led by Jeff Robinson (back row, second from left) brought the unanimous recommendation to elect Stephen Rummage to lead Florida Baptists as executive director-treasurer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As the 11th executive director of the Florida Baptist Convention, Rummage succeeds\u00a0Tommy Green, who announced his retirement in April 2024 after serving in that role since June 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am excited about the future of the Florida Baptist Convention under the leadership of Stephen Rummage. I have great respect and deep appreciation for the proven ministry of Stephen. He will continue to lead the amazing churches of Florida to be on mission of reaching Florida and beyond for Christ,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n<p>The unanimous recommendation was brought by a nine-person search committee appointed at the time of Green\u2019s retirement announcement.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Robinson, Orr and Glenn, other members of the nine-member search committee were: Vice Chairperson James Ross<strong>, <\/strong>lead pastor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchonbayshore.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Church on Bayshore<\/a>, Niceville; Lisa Letson, layperson, pastor\u2019s wife,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstbaptistarcadia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">First Baptist Church<\/a>, Arcadia; John Marsh<strong>, <\/strong>lead pastor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellavistabc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bella Vista Baptist Church<\/a>, Edgewater; Alberto Ocana, senior pastor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibnorthside.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Iglesia Bautista Northside<\/a>, Hialeah; Adrian Taylor<strong>, <\/strong>lead pastor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/springhillgnv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Springhill Missionary Baptist Church<\/a>, Gainesville; and Scott Wilson, lead pastor,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbcmel.info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">First Baptist Church<\/a>, Melbourne.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stephen N.
